On May 14th 2024, A-IQ Ready Finnish partners Mantsinen, Unikie and VTT visited Rauma sawmill to detail the location and practicalities of the Rauma case demonstrator.
The Rauma demonstration deals with the horizontal outdoor transfer of timber. The site contains many such material transfers, of which one is selected to be automated and demonstrated with an AGV-like industrial vehicle of MSK driving on the mill roads among manually driven vehicles.
The speciality of this case is that the sensors and the control intelligence needed for automated driving will reside in the infrastructure.
It is expected that, in the long run, a flexible and cost-effective solution for cargo transportation will be developed, first applied in industrial sites and then in other environments.
